Happy New Year! plus a festive Brussel Sprouts with Pomegranate Seeds recipe

Hello! Sending warm New Year’s greetings from crisp and sunny San Francisco. By this time tomorrow, I will be 30,000 feet in the air, on my way to Hong Kong and an 11-month journey around the world. I am excited to devote this coming year to a self-designed sabbatical and come back refreshed, ready to share newly inspiring life, health, and nutrition posts with you. If possible, I will be posting periodically along the way, bringing of the moment experiences your way.

Do know that I will be thinking of you and wishing you peace along your journey, even if I am not able to communicate as readily. If you are in need of a health coach, please email me, and I will recommend you to a colleague, as I won’t be taking on new clients during the coming year. I will still be on facebook now and then, so check in there if you don’t see something new here.

In the meantime, welcome to our second in a pair of lovely posts from my friend Ann, the chief cook, menu planner, and impetus behind Four Cooking Together! Click here for the first one: Dadi’s Apple Chutney. Ann is a devoted believer in Community Supported Agriculture and has been welcoming a weekly farm delivery for more than 14 years.  She can’t imagine a world without Freshness Farms.  Where would the inspiration for cooking begin?  The writing and photos on this post are all Ann’s handiwork — aren’t they so rich in color, texture, and cultural significance? I just love absorbing her posts and can’t wait to try this brussel sprouts recipe with some new friends somewhere in the coming year. And who doesn’t love a rich and succulent pomegranate during the holidays and beyond? Enjoy.

Guest Blog Post from Four Cooking Together: Dadi’s Apple Chutney

Chloé and Zest for Life Today are very grateful to Ann, the chief cook, menu planner, and impetus behind Four Cooking Together for this post! Keep your eye out for another Ann special coming to the Zest blog soon. I just love absorbing her posts and can’t wait to try this chutney recipe over this upcoming holiday week.

Recently my in-laws (known in Hindi as Dadi and Dada) flew in from the Midwest for a short stay.  We ended up spending hours together in the kitchen, as we often do.  It’s always a treat to welcome more cooks into the action especially those that bring love and laughter, along with creative, tasty ideas. There’s plenty of elbowroom for all, along with knives and cutting boards. Great meals are guaranteed.

Darshana Weil of Find Food Freedom Interviews Chloé

Two weeks ago, I had the distinct pleasure of sharing my story of health transformation during a teleclass hosted by my dear friend and former health coach Darshana Weil, founder of Find Food Freedom.

In case you missed the interview (yes, it was the week of Thanksgiving, so many folks were traveling), I am sharing the link with you here.Go to “Class 2: Improving Digestive Health and Living Gluten-Free Deliciously.”

The recording will be available through THIS Sunday, December 9th, so listen this week!

Much love and gratitude,
Chloé

Zest for Life Today featured on Four Cooking Together

A week ago, I was honored to be featured on the lovely blog of one of my friends. She and her family chronicle their adventures cooking organic, local, whole foods together. I shared a Roasted Seasonal Vegetable with Pesto recipe with her readership, which includes the recipients of the Freshness Farms CSA delivery. Ann inspires the community with simple, beautiful, delicious recipes.

Ann's gorgeous image of the meal

I also shared some gluten-free wisdom for readers who are newer to the concept or have been intimidated by making a change:

Chloé’s Top Three Tips for Eating Gluten-Free:

  1. Focus on the veggies. The one thing that all modes of healthy, intentional eating can agree on – from vegan to paleo and everything in between – is that eating a lot of organic, local, seasonal vegetables is a good thing. Add a side of meat or a side of a gluten-free grain.
  2. Learn how to cook gluten-free grains. Have you heard of quinoa, amaranth, teff, millet, or buckwheat? Rice is gluten-free, too. I will show you how to cook quinoa in this post to get you started.
  3. Seek out the ethnic cuisines that are naturally gluten-free. For at-home cooking and for eating out, focus on dishes that start with rice or corn instead of wheat or bread. It’s pretty simple to stay gluten-free when you look to Mexican, Indian, Thai, and Vietnamese dishes. For Italian food, try a risotto. It’s simply (or not so simply) a matter of re-training your brain.

What are your recommendations for someone who’s testing out being gluten- or grain-free?

Announcing the launch of my first ebook, The 14-Day Easy Elimination Diet!

Zest for Life Today is pleased to announce the launch of its first ebook: The 14-Day Easy Elimination Diet. After years of using the elimination diet as a tool to assist clients in diagnosing food allergies, I am excited to provide this do-it-yourself resource to a wider audience. The elimination diet is a simple, affordable, and relatively quick way to learn more about the relationship between the food you eat and your experience of health. Many frustrating symptoms – left unaddressed by traditional doctors – can be alleviated through simple changes in dietary habits. Take charge of your health today!

For the rest of this month, we are offering the book at the introductory rate of $11. 52-pages of step-by-step instructions, check-lists, easy recipes, and prompts for reflection and integration of learning will aid you in discovering potential food culprits and creating optimal health.

Can’t wait to hear the stories of what you discover using this tool! Please share freely.
